This 16” x 16” oil painting on canvas captures one of Chester’s most striking architectural landmarks—the Boughton Water Tower, designed by Bateman for the Chester Waterworks and constructed between 1851 and 1853. A Grade II listed building, this tower has become more than just a subject to me—it feels like a companion. I’ve worked nearby for the past 25 years, and its solid presence has become a comforting constant in my daily life. My artistic style embraces a vibrant palette, breathing colour and life into the historic brickwork of this late 19th-century structure. The building’s character is interpreted through bold strokes and rich hues, drawing attention to the overlooked beauty in industrial architecture. This painting is part of a triptych celebrating Chester’s architectural heritage from the late 1800s. Through this series, I aim to express my deep connection to these enduring structures and to share the sense of place and memory they hold for me.
